Once, long ago, during a Prodigal Son skit, the person playing the part of the Father kept getting up out of his rocking chair and cupping his hand above his eyes as if searching the horizon for his long-lost son. Then, after a moment, he would sigh and sit back down. He silently did this a number of times as the skit progressed showing the son partying and wasting his money and his life.
This was very moving to me – I can still picture it even though it was over 25 years ago.
The loving Father – patiently waiting for the one he loves to come home.
Most all of us turn our back and walk away from God at some time in our life – some of us more than once. We lose ourselves in reckless living in a dark world.
And God waits for us – longs for us to turn around and find our way – THE way – home.
Pray with thanksgiving that God always “leaves the light on” for us and with hope for those you know who are still wandering around in the dark.
